notes are similar to chords but they are played individually

the 6th string has the lowest pitch and the and the 1st string has the highest pitch.      

an open 6th string produces an E note,

 1st fret = F, 

2nd fret = F#, 

3rd fret = G,

5th fret = A,

an open 5th string produces an A note,
